Social Sciences Degrees
If you are considering a social science degree you may have been asked which particular branch or field you want to go into. There are actually many different fields associated with social sciences and one of them to consider is Jurisprudence. So what is it and what does it entail as far as a career path?
Jurisprudence is commonly accepted as the theory and philosophy of law. People who study jurisprudence do so in hopes that they will gain a deeper understanding of legal reasoning, the different legal systems as well as the nature of law. Jurisprudence continues to grow and develop with time but as of today, there are three main aspects of it which are:
Natural law is the theory that we have unchangeable laws of nature that govern us and that we should try to match this natural law with our institutions. Analytic jurisprudence questions the law, what the criteria for legal validity is, examines the relationship between law and morality and other philosophical questions.
Normative jurisprudence asks questions regarding what the law should be. It combines both law and moral values and political philosophy to try to determine the answers to questions about how people should be punished when they break the law, what the proper forms of punishment should be and how judges should rule on cases.
This and many other types of cultural science careers are available when you have a social sciences degree. It’s never too early to start planning for your future so consider it today even if you are still in high school or not yet certain of where you want to go with your future.
