Social Science Degree in Anthropology

A career in Anthropology is one choice that you have if you obtain your social science degree. There are many exciting and rewarding career opportunities for you in anthropology. Most people in these fields have education and research careers but you are not limited to just these. Some anthropology majors also work in publishing and in museums. To work in a career as an anthropologist, you are typically expected to have at least a graduate degree. Previous studies in social sciences can help you toward this specialized degree.

There are many different fields of cultural science to choose from and anthropology careers are typically centered around the study of the cultures of people and their physical traits. This field of study recognizes the evolution of man throughout time and history.

There are also several different types of anthropologists to choose from and when you decide to make this your career path, you can also decide which specific field you want to go into. Some examples are:

• Sociocultural anthropology- In this field you will study the customs, cultures, and social lives of groups in different settings. This could range from unindustrialized societies to today’s modern urban centers.
• Linguistic anthropology- If this is your choice, you will investigate the role of, and changes to, language over time in the various cultures.
• Biophysical anthropology- In this field you will research the evolution of the human body. You may be required to look for early evidences of human life. You may also need to analyze how culture and biology influence one another as well as how this changes over time.
• Physical anthropology- With this field you will examine human remains found at archaeological sites. By doing this you can learn about population demographics and factors. This will teach you about the nutrition of these societies, popular diseases and more.
